RRuggedScan
Android app

Install RuggedScan

On an iPhone or iPad, RuggedScan installs from Safari onto the home screen. On Android, install the app below. Either way it is the same RuggedScan you are looking at now - a fix is on every phone the moment it is deployed.

Scan console

iPhone and iPad

  1. Scan the code with the iPhone camera and open the link in Safari (it has to be Safari - other browsers on an iPhone cannot add an app to the home screen).
  2. Tap the Share button (the square with the arrow), then Add to Home Screen, then Add.
  3. Open RuggedScan from its new icon. Sign in once - the home-screen app keeps its own sign-in, separate from Safari.
  4. Allow the camera the first time you photograph a label.

It opens full screen on the scan console, like the Android app. iOS 16.4 or later. https://ruggedscan.vercel.app/scan

This second code opens this page rather than the download — the one to send someone who has not installed an APK before.

Installing it

  1. Scan the code with the phone's camera app and open the link. The APK downloads.
  2. Open the download. Android will say this source is not allowed to install apps — that is the standard warning for an app that does not come from the Play Store. Tap Settings, turn on Allow from this source, and go back. You do this once per phone.
  3. Tap Install, then Open.
  4. Allow the camera permission the first time you scan. RuggedScan asks for nothing else.

What the app adds

  • Scanning that works on real labels. ML Kit reads 1080p frames with Data Matrix first in the format list, with pinch-to-zoom, tap-to-focus and a torch button — the three things that decide whether a 3 mm code decodes.
  • Continuous capture. An M.2 label carries three codes for one drive. The scanner keeps going, collects them, and hands them over together.
  • Everything else is identical, because it is the same app: brand rules, catalog, inventory and the label trainer all come from the server, so a fix is live on every phone the moment it is deployed — no reinstall.
